About the Event

Taking Root ( 2008)

"It is the people who must save the environment. It is the people who must make their leaders change. And we cannot be intimidated. So we must stand up for what we believe in."

- Wangari Maathai

The powerful story behind the Green Belt Movement and its founder Wangari Maathai, the enviromental visionary and first female African environmentalist to win the Nobel Peace Prize.

The GBM came as a response to the needs of rural Kenyan women who reported that their streams were drying up and their food supply were less secure. Wangari Maathai whose simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, protect human rights, and defend democracy - a movement for which this charismatic woman became an inspiration within the fight against climate change.

Join us for an evening of conversation around indigenous peoples, their wisdom behind the understanding of their land and the impact of empowering women of colour. Speakers to be announced soon - follow @greendeen_tribe on Instagram to stay updated!

We look forward to seeing you there. BYOB. Green Tea and light snacks will be provided.

£3 to be paid on the door. Cash only.
